ZATOPEKS
Damn Fool Music
Format : CD
Catalogue # : HAUS097CD
Release Date : November 2007
Berlin/London based ZATOPEKS are set to break big with 14 tunes packed to the rafters with pop hooks, lyrical wit and the full on punk energy these guys radiate at their live shows. It's like a cocktail of 50's pop and 90's Lookout! punkrock mixed by Tom Waits, and you're gonna love the taste!
Singer Will DeNiro is a unique songwriter who's love of literature and philosophy leads to wide range of topics on "Damn Fool Music" .
From raging against anti-Semitic radio stations (Radio Maryja) and the UK's second biggest selling newspaper (Daily Mail), challenging the over used theories of punk rebellion by taking the debate back to 18th century French philosopher Rousseau (Culture of Control), and along the way checking former Czech leader Vaclav Hval (Don't let the Night Get You Down). Add to that songs inspired by a stack of postcards from 1920s, Brentford Football club and lots of dark days and nights in pub and bars across europe and you have...
Musically the album is as diverse as the subject matter full of big big choruses boy / girl vocal interplay's and harmonies, reflective nostalgic and then turning on twist to smash into what could be new waves classic that time forgot.
All this is infused with a UK voice that is clearly informed that the UK may where you started but now they want to take the music worldwide.
ZATOPEKS - damn fool music may the biggest and happiest new discovery you make this year.. punk .pop.. rock..does it really matter what you call music this good?
After a couple of split releases and contributions to compilations here it is, the debut album of the Zatopeks! 14 tunes packed to the rafters with pop hooks, lyrical wit and the full on punk energy these guys radiate at their live shows. It's like a cocktail of 50's pop and 90's Lookout! punkrock mixed by Tom Waits, and you're gonna love it's taste!
These fine English gentlemen had already proven to be an amazing liveband (if you haven't seen them: they're like a carcrash, it isn't a pretty sight but you just have to watch) and now they've come up with one of the best European poppunk records ever made, the Zatopeks are one of punkrock's best contemporary bands.
We hope you enjoy this as much as we do.
